TORRINGTON: Breaking news from Litchfield County

This fall the crew from LCS will add live game day coverage of the University of Connecticut Huskies football team to their resume, as the Huskies play their inaugural season in the newly formed American Athletic Conference.

The AAC in made up of the following teams. Cincinnati, UConn, Louisville, Memphis, Rutgers, South Florida, Southern Methodist, Temple and UCF.

It’s a big step for us but don’t worry, we will still be heavy into our bread and butter, the local scene.

Covering our States major University has been in the works for some time and with time on the clock to cover more stories, it made sense to add UConn to the mix.

The Huskies and head coach Paul Pasqualoni enter the season with high expectations after back to back 5-7 seasons.

UConn made bowl appearances from 2007-2010 but missed the post season the last two years.

Getting off to a fast start will be important for the Huskies but they face stiff competition over their first three games, all played at Rentschler Field.

On Thursday, Towson and their high powered junior running back Terrance West who rushed for over 1000 yards a year ago and scored 14 touchdowns.

The schedule stays interesting the following week when former UConn head Coach Randy Edsall returns with his Maryland Terapins on Saturday, September 14.

A week later, the highly ranked Michigan Wolverines invade the Rent in a matchup that will be a good barometer for the Huskies to see where they stand after three games.

Count on us to look deep into the Huskie roster to find features on players like former Torrington standout, Chris Deberry amongst others.

Tim Gaffney and John Nestor will be at the Rent on Thursday and will bring you back the stories.
