Torrington pitcher Sydney Matzko is a big reason why the Red Raiders are a threat to do some damage in the NVL and State Class L Tournaments. Matzko struck out 12 and walked one while allowing two hits in a 23-0 five-inning victory Friday over Wilby. Torrington finished the regular season 18-2 and on a 12-game winning streak entering the postseason.
Former Avon Old Farms star, goalie Jonathan Quick, has his LA Kings hockey team a win away from the Stanley Cup finals. The Kings lead the Phoenix Coyotes 3-0 after a 2-1 win at home on Thursday night. Quick has elevated his game to superstar heights this post season.
